Empowering Farmers Through Digital Transformation: A Secret Strategy That Wins
Expanding Digital Agriculture Across Uganda
Feasts Consultants International, a leader in agricultural consultancy, employed a winning strategy to extend digital solutions to underserved farming communities in Kayunga, Wakiso, Gomba, and Luweero districts. The E-Booster project, funded by the Uganda Communications Commission, reached eight sub-counties:
- Luweero District: Zirobwe and Bamunaanika
- Wakiso District: Kira and Namayumba
- Gomba District: Kabulasoke and Kanoni
- Kayunga District: Bbaale and Busaana
This strategic outreach aimed to empower smallholder farmers by introducing the Feasts Farms App—a comprehensive tool designed to digitize farm management and improve connectivity to service providers and agro-input dealers.
Identifying Digital Leaders: The Birth of Digital Community Champions (DCCs)
During our sensitization meetings, we identified exceptional early adopters—farmers who demonstrated strong leadership and quick learning skills. These individuals, selected from all eight sub-counties, were trained and designated as “Digital Community Champions (DCCs).” Their primary role is to act as community-based facilitators, ensuring widespread adoption of the Feasts Farms App in their respective communities.
Our tailored training sessions equipped DCCs to:
- Inspire farmers about the benefits of using the Feasts Farms App
- Conduct one-on-one and group sensitizations
- Assist farmers with app downloads and account creation
- Demonstrate app features and provide real-time support
- Address inquiries and troubleshooting issues
Equipping Digital Leaders for Success
On December 18th, a final training session was conducted for all DCCs. We provided each of the 16 champions with brand-new smartphones and financial support to help them mobilize their communities effectively. Every sub-county was represented by two DCCs.
Since then, the work of these champions has been nothing short of phenomenal. They have spearheaded efforts to expand app adoption, going from village to village, spreading the message of agricultural digitalization.
Results Beyond Expectations: A Growing Digital Community
Despite initial plans to reach 250 users, the Feasts Farms App has far surpassed expectations, with nearly 2,000 active users and counting. This rapid growth demonstrates the DCCs’ effectiveness and the app’s appeal to farmers.
The transformation is now community-driven, with farmers taking ownership of the digital revolution. Motivated by the app’s ease of use and valuable features, they are sharing their knowledge and ensuring no farmer is left behind in the new era of digital agriculture.
Community-Driven Agricultural Digitalization
The Feasts Farms App’s simplicity and practicality have made it a household name in farming communities. Farmers who once doubted the app’s capabilities are now its most passionate advocates. Village discussions now center on the app’s benefits, with demonstrations and shared learning sessions creating a ripple effect of digital empowerment.

Together, we have laid a strong foundation for digital agriculture in Uganda, ensuring the project’s sustainability long after its initial implementation.
